What's Happening In August

Summer is wrapping up and it's about that time to get back into the School routine. Here's some things you need to know for August!

Price/Membership Simplification

We sent out a separate email with some price adjustments to simplify some things so there is more clarity on membership costs and options. That will take effect on September 1st. Don't worry, only 1 membership has a slight price increase, but 2 memberships have a slight decrease. Make sure to check that email out!

New Coach - Jason Hogan

We will be bringing on Jason Hogan as a Coach here at the gym. Jason headed up our Athlete program and did a phenomenal job. He is still finishing up his degree in Kinesiology at Jax State, and already has coaching experience under his belt. Most of you already know Jason, but we are looking forward to him beginning to Coach some classes towards the end of August. 

Programming - Bench Press

As we did with the Squats, I was reviewing our programming calendar and felt that it was appropriate to squeeze in a short Bench Press Cycle starting next week! Look forward to that while we start to see a slight increase in shorter, higher intensity workouts. 

I also want to point out how quickly everyone has adapted to longer workouts. Less than a year ago, anything over 18min was rare and got complained about heavily. Now, everyone is confident going into workout 20+ min on a regular basis. This is just a reminder that one of your body's most incredible features is its adaptability. 

We will continue to push that adaptability as we move away from longer workouts, and move into more frequent high intensity workouts. 

Athlete of the Month - Matt Hicks

Matt Hicks is our August Athlete of the Month! Matt was convinced to try out our CrossFit Classes in February by his wife, Nicole, and he hasn't looked back! Matt shows up nearly every morning at 5am and gets after it. Next time you see Matt at the gym, give him a solid fist bump!

New CrossFit Thelo App

You can ditch the Push Press Members app and Push Press Train App. We now have a personalized app specific to CrossFit Thelo. On the app you will be be able to reserve for classes, change memberships, input new info that needs updating, see workouts, and post to our community feed. The app is connected to SugarWod which we will still use. So don’t delete sugarwod just yet if you are one who records your workout scores regularly.

CrossFit Games

For those who are interested, the 2023 CrossFit Games will be going on this week! Age Groups start today, and Individuals & Teams will start on Thursday. If you want to watch the games, tune into the CrossFit Games Youtube Channel where you can watch all of the main events!

Back to School Cookout

We will have a back to school cookout on August 18th to celebrate school starting back and college students being back! We will only have the 330pm class that afternoon, then hangout and eat to follow! Plan on being there shortly before 5pm. We will hangout, play some basketball, corn hole, and eat!

Legends of the Falls

We are sponsoring a station for Legends of the Falls again this year! We had a blast last year running the Wall Balls Station and it appears that we will be at the same station this year. This event is at Noccalula Falls in Gadsden and is put on by Rich Froning. You will get to see quite a few Games Level Athletes and it is an overall very fun day!

For those interested, we will likely need you from 7am - 1pm (roughly) on Saturday October 7th! We will have a sign up sheet at the gym, and need to know by the end of August how many volunteers that we have. If you can make it part of that time, please let us know that as well!
