March Updates

Well, February flew by and March is here. That means its time for warmer weather and that makes working out much more enjoyable!

Here's a few things you guys should know:

The Final Week of the 2023 CrossFit Open

It has been fun! But the Open comes to a close this weekend. Friday Night Lights has been a blast, and we hope everyone will come this last Friday as well to workout or at least spectate the workout. Heats will start around 330 and go until 6pm.

Remember, we will also have open gym on the smaller gym side for anyone to jump in on!

Coach John has a lot of Burpees to Do.

As of now (February 28th at 7:15pm), Coach John has 290 Burpees to do. The plan is to do all 290 burpees (or more if more reviews come in tonight) without stopping and simply make that his workout for the day. If anyone would like to jump in, please feel free!

We really do appreciate all the reviews! So thank you guys!

Athlete of the Month - Rebecca Strayhorn

Rebecca is well deserving of the covetted Athlete of the Month as she is one of our most consistent 6am class members. Her claim to fame at the gym is winning 6 months of free membership to the gym at Casino Night TWICE, in back to back years. Rebecca works extremely hard and it definitely shows. Next time you see her, give her a solid high five!

CrossFit Thelo Podcast

We have released our first 2 podcasts! The first on gym history and coaches, and the second on some basic nutrition. Our third should drop this weekend on staying motivated. Be sure to check it out if you like podcast and hear the coaches nerd out a little bit. The podcast allows us to inform you about different things in the fitness world but also let you know how much thought we really put into the things we do at the gym. So check out the method to the madness. The podcast is on Spotify, Itunes, and Youtube. You can also find the link to it on our instagram bio.

Also, please shoot us a message on Instagram or Facebook about any questions you have about the podcasts or any topics that you would like us to cover!

Winter Workout Accountability

The winner of our Winter Workout Accountability challenge will be announced this week! If you remained a member for the months of December, January, and February, you don't have to do anything. You are automatically entered to win a free month.

Game Time - April 1st

We are going to have our first ever Game Time on Saturday, April 1st! This will take the place of our "test week" that we use to do. We want this to be a fun event, where you can be competitive with yourself and test some numbers without dreading it (like test week was often dreaded).

On that day, we will lead everyone through a warm up, then you will have an allotted amount of time to complete 2-3 lifts which we have been working towards with our strength cycles, you will have an 10-15min to complete 2-3 different agility measurements such as broad jump or possibly vertical jump, and you will finish with a short-ish conditioning workout involving only machines and body weight.

We plan to do this 3 times a year at the end of each strength cycle to get some numbers and let you guys see how you are progressing all around. Think of this is a fitness field day. it should be fun!

Food for Thought

"There's more than one way to skin a cat." Easily this is one of the worst expressions to exist, but we all know what it means. And in our case, it means that there is more than way to reach your goal. Aesthetically and athletically, what works for one person may not work the same for you. Our bodies are built differently and respond differently to things. Plus, we have large biases and things like and dislike which makes things impossible for a "one size fits all" program of exercise to nutrition to reach any goal.

The good thing is that you have options! Do not get discouraged when you try something that someone else has done and it either does not work the same for you or you dislike it too much to continue. If you prefer carbs over fat, you can still lose body fat or gain weight to look how you want to. Likewise, if you prefer fat over carbs, you can also do the same. Don't like meat? There are more protein packed plant based foods now that there have ever been! Sometimes you just have to be creative, but keep trying and find the routine and plan that you can stick to. Because without consistency, nothing works.

You guys are great!

See you in the gym!
